- Pearl Fey, Reunion, and Turnabout
First impressions can tell a lot about a person, and Phoenix’s first impression of Pearl isn’t off: she is a weird, yet very adorable child. But even though she may be only nine years old, there’s definitely more to her than it seems.
When you first meet Pearl Fey in “Reunion, and Turnabout”, she doesn’t speak much to strangers at all -- especially if those strangers are suspicious -- if only because she trusts in her mother’s words so much. After all, she is family. Little did she know that her mother would be in the center of so many horrible incidents.
But once she starts talking, things go from weird to weirder, as it appears that Pearl considers Phoenix and Maya to be an ‘official couple’. In fact, she blushes and starts rambling about how the two of them are supposed to be together forever and that she’s alright with Phoenix calling Maya simply by her name and not her title (in fact, she states that she gets mad at anyone who doesn’t call her ‘Mystic Maya’) because they’re supposed to be very lovey-dovey. Not only does she pair them up together, she does things to make them stay together, such as reserve special training courses for the two of them or reserve a hotel room just for them.
The reason why Pearl cares so much about a relationship between her cousin (Mystic Maya) and Phoenix is because there aren’t many men in Kurain Village. Not only that, but most relationships and marriages in Kurain end up horribly (break-ups, divorces, etc), and Pearl doesn’t want to see that anymore. Which is why she’s devoted to keep those two together. And if she sees Phoenix even try to betray Maya, he’ll definitely get his punishment in slaps.
Pearl, for the most part, has lived in Kurain Village all her life. She is actually even considered as Morgan Fey’s sacred treasure: which is why she has never left the village until her mother’s arrest - to protect her from the world and its “evils”. It’s the sole reason why Pearl is so sheltered -- and the reason why she doesn’t know much about things outside of Kurain Village prior to meeting Phoenix (and going on many cases with him, too). But the fact that she doesn’t understand certain things also shows why she didn’t know what a computer was or even a train. In fact, she actually ran to get to the courtroom in “Reunion, and Turnabout”.
Family means a lot to Pearl. And we do mean a lot. When Maya gets kidnapped in “Farewell, My Turnabout”, she starts crying and worrying about her, especially since Maya is the only family member she has left (sure, her mother’s in the penitentiary, but it’s not like she can see her often), and does everything she can to help Phoenix. Even in the first case she appears in, “Reunion, and Turnabout” she helps Phoenix in several ways: charging the Magatama so that Phoenix can see psyche-locks and channeling Mia to help him in court. And even though Pearl doesn’t necessarily know the truth about her mother (especially how she was involved in “Reunion, and Turnabout”), she is very committed into following everything her mother says, no questions asked -- even if she does make mistakes at times.
All in all, Pearl is a girl who cares about others, especially her family and friends. Sure, she may pair up Phoenix and Maya because of what she’s seen in her own home, but that won’t stop her from being the cute, sheltered little girl that you just cannot harm in any way. Even if she does have more knowledge about spirit channeling than Maya.
[Specialties/Abilities]
Pearl is a good-to-honest spirit medium with very powerful abilities (at least, for a young spirit medium). This means that she has the ability to channel spirits. The technique that is used to channel spirits is the 'Kurain Channeling Technique'. When she channels a spirit, her 'soul' goes to sleep and takes on the physical appearance of whoever she's channeling.
Another note is that she is able to put some sort of energy into magatamas to allow certain people to see psyche-locks.
